NCL Escape to Bermuda

This was our second time on the NCL Escape. This cruise was a 7 night cruise out of NY. It went to Bermuda where we were docked overnight for a few days. We have never docked overnight before but this was a nice change and a chance to not rush around during the day. We could go on the island and off at our leisure.

Coming from MD, we took a Greyhound bus to the port terminal in NY. The ride was smooth and it was relatively inexpensive. Navigating the Port Authority terminal was a bit challenging as it was extremely crowded. However, once we got to the street we took a ride share to the cruise terminal which was very quick. Once in the terminal, we did have to wait a little bit because the boat was late. It was the first time the Escape came to NY.

Once we arrived on the boat, we immediately went to Headliners to change our dinner reservations (my mom came with us last minute). This was extremely easy and very quick! We were able to rebook and change dinner times for Le Bistro (French), Cagney’s (Steakhouse), La Cucina (Italian), Teppanyaki (Hibachi). The shows on this boat were After Midnight, For the Record: Brat Pack, Escape the Big Top (Escape Room), The Choir of Man (15.99 charge, but well worth it).

About the shows:

After Midnight– This show was not our cup of tea but many others seemed to enjoy it. We are young in our 30’s and the older crowd raved about it (I mean a standing ovation). The story was about Harlem’s Cotton Club. The musical was a combination of performer, music, and dancing.  This was a complimentary show and we highly recommend that you get to all shows early and don’t forget to book ahead of time! We find that booking shows on sea days is nice for two reasons: you don’t have to rush back to the boat and it gives you something to do at night after a long relaxing day by the pool or spa.

For the Record: Brat Pack– We love this show! We have seen this show twice and it really is a great production that brings you back to The Breakfast Club with great music, theatrics, and a good storyline!

Escape The Big Top– Also a complimentary event on NCL Escape. This is similar to an Escape room in the way that you have clues, a time limit, and a goal. You have to work together to figure out how to solve the problem! We had fun and it was a great way to meet new people because you can’t be a team of 2.

The Choir of Man– Amazing show and totally worth the $15.99 up-charge for adults and $10.99 for children. It was about an English pub with performers who sang rock hits and pub favorites. This show was held at the Supper club which is also a really nice venue that is smaller and intimate. They also served a meal that consisted of bangers and mash and a free beer (New Castle) although many of us on NCL have the Ultimate Beverage Package but if you don’t it was a nice touch!

They do have one additional show that we have not attended: Wine Lovers The Musical. It does have an adult and child charge of $23. 54. It is a funny musical about the joys of wine and love!

Specialty Dining Menus:

Vibe Beach Club

We have been lucky enough to get Vibe passes in the past. This time we took our time getting to the port and purchased the thermal suite passes ahead of time ($200 ahead of time, $240 on the boat). However, when we got to Headliners for our dinner reservations, Patrick said “Olivia go see if they have any passes left”. I did and they had 3 left for the 3 of us! We love the Vibe and the experience so we were pretty happy already! It was our first wedding anniversary so it could not get any better Vibe and Spa 🙂 Vibe is a nice place to sneak away from the masses. You have your own bar, hot tub, padded loungers, bathrooms, and best of all, around 3:00 PM is cookie time! The staff come around at 3 to give you cookies and shortly before that is fruit skewer time. We spend most of our time in the hot tub in the spa talking with new people, sharing stories, drinking delicious frozen drinks, and soaking in every minute of the sun (literally we are there sun rise to sunset). Highly recommend this experience if you are one of the lucky ones to get a pass. They only sell a limited number of passes so if this is something you want you need to be in line veryyyyy early!

Another part of the ship that we love on the NCL Escape is the District Brew House. They have so many beers on tap and amazing entertainment. This time we had a piano man who was hilarious, got the crowd going, dancing, singing along, and really enjoying this cool new environment of a laid back kind of feel. We were invited to a complimentary Brew House experience that was shockingly cool! They provided small samples of the beers, mini appetizers , and meet and greet with NCL staff officers walking around.

Bermuda Docked:

This was the first time that we were docked overnight for multiple days in a port. We found that this was very convenient to experience the island at our leisure.

The first day we walked around, got familiar with the Royal Navy Dockyard. My mom did some shopping of course! We really just explored walking distance area. There is not much over the bridge so we stayed pretty local trying to steal some WiFi from ice cream shops.

The next day we took the bus to the Crystal & Fantasy Caves. The bus was very long and we recommend if you are in a hurry or a time crunch, don’t take the bus. The caves were gorgeous, humid, and amazing. Patrick and my Mom enjoyed the Crystal Caves more than the Fantasy Caves. I enjoyed them both the same!

The final day Patrick and I went jet skiing right at the dock. It was a high-thrill tour where we got to see a shipwreck, feed the fish bread, and go see sea turtles. This jet ski tour was amazing and they really mean high-speed. Patrick and I shared a jet ski so he could drive. This is not a leisure ride but a quick jet to the location and chill for a bit then speed off  kind of tour. The experience was amazing and highly recommended.

Back on the boat we enjoyed a delicious lunch at Taste with a gorgeous view!

One of our favorite boats is the NCL Escape primarily for the spa, vibe, brew house, entertainment, food, and the ability to pay for an escape from the crowds of a mega-ship. We look forward to our next cruise in December 2018 on the latest and greatest, NCL Bliss to the Caribbean! Stay tuned!
